According to new statistics released by Las Cruces, NM authorities, methamphetamine seizures are on the rise.
Almost all of the drugs seized by local police and state officials were from members of Mexican drug cartels. Typically cocaine is the most problematic of the drugs crossing the border, but this year there was a spike in the amount of meth being intercepted.
Methamphetamine is actually more addictive than cocaine, according to the Foundation for a Drug Free World. It produces a direct effect on the nervous system, stimulating pleasure receptors and acting as an upper. “Meth heads” (methamphetamine addicts) might go days without sleep. The drug ravages the body and causes problems with the lungs, kidneys, liver and brain.
The increase in the prevalence of methamphetamine seizures in the United States, particularly in border states, could indicate that methamphetamine demand is also on the rise.
It might also mean that measures to prevent meth labs from operating in the United States, such as statewide pseudoephedrine monitoring databases, might be successful in reducing the amount of supply available, to the point where it becomes more profitable for a meth smuggler to bring the substance across the border.
Whatever the case may be, as long as there are meth addicts, there will be meth smugglers and meth dealers. The real solution to the problem is to strip away demand for methamphetamine. We can accomplish this by providing effective New Mexico drug abuse rehabs for addicts so that they can have help in kicking their habit.
Since 93% of all meth addicts revert to using meth after even after treatment, it takes a particularly successful and innovative drug abuse rehab center to get results.
Riverbend Retreat uses modern methods that lets it have an unprecedented success rate of over 75%. If you know someone who needs help, call our hotline at 1-877-340-3602.
