Calories from Alcoholic beverages

By admin on February 2, 2013

Us Americans we are obsessed with how much we weight and how we look each day.  But you know it is somewhat funny that we are also very interested in our daily drinks that we imbibe in every day.  Here are some interesting facts about what amounts of calories we consume each day in our alcoholic beverages.  The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2010 reports:

The US adult population consumes an average of almost 100 calories per day from alcoholic beverages.

Men consume more calories from alcoholic beverages than women.

Younger adults consume more calories from alcoholic beverages than older adults.

Men consume more beer than other types of alcohol.

Average calories consumed from alcoholic beverages do not differ by race and ethnicity.

Here are some more interesting facts:

The risk of excessive alcohol consumption in terms of injury and chronic disease are well known, less is known about the calories consumed from alcoholic beverages.

As with calorically sweetened beverages, alcoholic beverages are a top contributor to caloric intake but provide few nutrients.

On a given day one third of men and 18% of women consume calories from alcoholic beverages.  Twenty percent of men and six percent of women consume more than 300 calories from alcoholic beverages, which are about two or more twelve ounce beers, more than two and one half glasses of wine or more than four point five ounces of spirits.

What does all this information mean to you and me the average American.  It means that we are aware of our weight and our health each day and we sometimes don’t look at how many calories we consume when it comes to our alcohol beverage.  That small glass of wine we need at the end of the day is what we have attention on.  I guess alcohol has a different stigma.  Most people worry if they do too much then they get addicted and that would be worse than being too fat from the calories that alcohol gives to us.  Bottom line we should be aware of both. Many drug abuse sites can offer solutions. Are we drinking too much so as to cause us to be addicted and are we consuming too many empty calories from our glass of wine or beer we partake in each day.

If you have been effected negatively by alcohol, contact us.
