The City of Flagstaff, Arizona has a population of 52,894 with an average household size of 2.59.¹  Flagstaff is the fourth largest city in Arizona located in Coconino County.

Flagstaff Arizona's Drug Source

The DEA (The US Drug Enforcement Administration)² reports that Mexican black tar heroin is the predominant type of heroin found in Arizona. Heroin is smuggled into Arizona primarily through Arizona’s Ports of Entry by pedestrians or within hidden compartments in vehicles.

There are two types of methamphetamine available in Arizona, Mexican-produced and locally produced methamphetamine. Mexican-produced methamphetamine is the most predominant type encountered in the state and is frequently smuggled across the Southwest Border (SWB) where it transits through Arizona. The locally produced methamphetamine originates from independently owned and operated laboratories that are responsible for yielding small quantities for local consumption.

Marijuana remains widely available in quantities up to multi-hundred pounds packaged for delivery.

One thing is for certain, for a drug addict, the dwindling spiral will continue on its downward path unless action is taken. NOW is the time to do something before the addicted person winds up in jail or dead of an overdose or accident. Unfortunately past failed attempts to overcome addiction only further depress the individual so it comes as no surprise that fear and hesitation.

Flagstaff Area Drug Related Arrests 

December 4, 2008, the JackCentral.com ran this story, Interstate 40 a Hotspot for Marijuana Trafficking through Flagstaff. They reported: With marijuana harvests in Mexico and northern California hitting their annual peak, more drug transporters are making their way through Flagstaff highways.
The increase in drug trafficking was highlighted on Nov. 13 when officers from the Flagstaff Department of Public Safety (DPS) stopped three different drivers and discovered at least 58 pounds of marijuana in each of their cars.
Sally F., 30, of Mendocino County, Calif., was stopped for speeding on eastbound I-40 near the Walnut Canyon exit. Suspicious behavior caused the officer to search her vehicle, which led to the discovery of 37 lbs. of high-grade marijuana.
Michael G., 35, of Las Vegas was stopped for unsafe lane usage on eastbound I-40 near the Winona exit. A search of his car led to the discovery of 21 pounds of high-grade marijuana. Details of the third bust have not been released due to an ongoing investigation.

December 17, 2008, AZFamily.com ran this story:  DPS Seizes Codeine Cough Medicine. Drugs in Traffic Stop:  On Dec. 12, 2008, at about 10:15 a.m. an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer (DPS) stopped a rented SUV on Interstate 40 at milepost 205 (near Flagstaff) for a traffic violation. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up between six and seven liters of Codeine cough medicine. Some of the containers appeared to look like they were stolen from a pharmacy, while others may have been obtained through prescription fraud. Two suspects were arrested.
On Dec. 15, 2008, at about 6:17 p.m. on Interstate 10 at milepost 21 westbound (near Quartzsite) a DPS officer made a traffic stop on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala for an equipment violation. A search of the vehicle revealed 230.9 pounds of marijuana found in the trunk. On Dec. 15, 2008, at about 6:08 p.m. a DPS officer stopped a commercial vehicle on Gila Ridge Road and Avenue 3E for an equipment violation. A search of the trailer revealed 787 pounds of marijuana. The driver was arrested.

The Damage to Society
In the State of Arizona, and specifically in the city of Flagstaff, the effects of drug and alcohol abuse goes way past the the damage done to the addicts themselves. In terms of time lost on the job, to the health system inundated by illness and overdoses to communities harmed by the crime rate caused by addicts looking to steal anything in order to get their next fix, to families living a nightmare as they watch helplessly as their loved one goes further down the chutes.
