Methoween

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department in Tennessee celebrated Halloween by increasing awareness about the horrors of methamphetamine abuse. Tennessee has been combating methamphetamine use by passing new legislation. For example, several counties passed laws restricting the amount of over-the-counter cold medication with pseudoephedrine that can be sold to any individual. Pseudoephedrine is an important precursor chemical to making methamphetamine.

This move proved only slightly effective as methamphetamine manufacturers soon recruited other sources for the ingredients they needed. Newer legislation requires a doctor’s prescription for all medications that contain pseudoephedrine. So far, eighteen counties and cities have enacted the law. At the same time, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department has been working hard to take methamphetamine dealers off their streets. An announcement from the Sheriff’s Department read:

“Our drug investigators with the sheriff’s department have been recognized by the State of Tennessee for the efficiency and dedication in their efforts to stamp out meth and other illegal drugs by being named ‘Drug Unit of the Year’ by their peers in the Tennessee Narcotics Officer Association.”

The staff at Narconon New Life Retreat would like to commend the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for their hard work on behalf of the state of Tennessee. They put their lives on the line to make a difference in the community and they deserve recognition.
