I Came Out of My Shell

When I first got to Narconon, I went into the withdrawal unit. I was very much in my shell. I had my walls up and trusted no one. But thanks to the fantastic people who worked with me in withdrawal, I was able to come out of my shell.

When I got out of withdrawal, I went to the sauna New Life Detox. I remember thinking, “How will this help me with anything?” But, as I started to go through it, I understood, and I started to feel better and better every day. I no longer felt the effects of any drugs. The people running the sauna kept on me and encouraged me to push myself and get the most out of it. After I finished the sauna, I went on to Objectives.

Objectives were different, but they helped me so much in actually being in the present. Objectives felt like the longest part of the program. But I had many wins and gains. I was able to not be in my head so much and was able to focus on what was going on around me.

“My time here at Narconon has been amazing, and I’m proud of myself for sticking this out and doing right!”

After Objectives came Life Skills, I learned about what types of people I should have in my life and which ones I shouldn’t. Handling my family was my favorite part of the program. At first, I didn’t want to call them, but when I did, I took responsibility for all the messed-up things I’d done to them. I didn’t know what they would say, but they were very grateful, and it went much better than I could’ve ever imagined. Then came Personal Values, which wasn’t fun, but it was necessary. Looking at all the wrongdoing I’d done across all aspects of my life wasn’t enjoyable, but I felt great and realized it wasn’t that bad once I was done. Getting all that off my chest was so helpful for me in my journey on the path to sobriety. Then came conditions and figuring out why I was a liability, and I figured out the formulas to better my life. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

My time here at Narconon has been amazing, and I’m proud of myself for sticking this out and doing right!
