Meridian, Idaho: Drug Abuse Rehab

Meridian, Idaho: Alcohol and Drug Addiction Information

Map of Idaho

Meridian, located just outside Boise, is the third largest city in Idaho behind Boise and Nampa. Its nickname is “The Center of the Treasure Valley” and it was recently named the best city in the U.S. to live in by a Wall Street firm. But even Meridian struggles with problems of illicit drug distribution and addiction.

Meridian’s fertile land was originally populated by farmers raising grains, vegetables and fruits and running dairy farms.

Over the past 20 years, Idaho’s expanding population has created a housing boom as people moving into the area to work in government, finance and business need new homes. Meridian is headquarters for a number of large corporations.

Meridian Idaho’s Drug Source

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration notes that methamphetamine is the most problematic drug in the state. This is a drug that may come from Mexico or be produced in small domestic labs.

Meridian has only been home to one of these meth labs but other cities such as Pocatello, Nampa and Boise have seen more of these sites discovered and destroyed. Most of the methamphetamine in the Midwest and Northwest comes from large labs in Mexico.

Unfortunately, drug traffickers make sure that Meridian has plenty of supplies for anyone to abuse. In a recent arrest, a Meridian man was found to possess not only methamphetamine but also prescription medications, heroin and synthetic marijuana.

Marijuana may be brought in from Mexico, most likely by way of Colorado, or it could be obtained from legal sources in Washington. A truck driver was recently found to have picked up 150 pounds of marijuana in Washington with the intention of driving it to the East Coast. He made it as far as Meridian where he was stopped and arrested.

There is plenty of marijuana grown locally as well. One couple from Boise Country was found to have a grow operation in their home valued at more than $150,000. Outdoor grows are often found in national forests or parks and require extensive quantities of money and manpower to destroy them when they are found. One law enforcement officer said that in rural Boise County, $200 million worth of marijuana plants had been eradicated over a ten-year period.

Heroin arrives in smaller quantities. While there are few people in Idaho going to rehab for heroin addiction, that number is increasing, as is the number of people being admitted to rehab for addiction to painkillers.

The usual trend is for individuals to start taking painkillers either recreationally or medically and then after a time, it’s easy to become addicted to them. When the doctor refuses another prescription or he’s arrested for drug-dealing, or the addicted person runs out of money, there’s a migration to heroin which is a fraction of the price of painkillers bought on the street. But heroin’s fluctuating potency can mean a death sentence for a person who gets a stronger dose than they expected.

The Dwindling Spiral Will Continue

Crack pipe and a bag

Once a person begins to be addicted to any substance – alcohol, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, synthetics or other drugs, one thing is certain—his drug use is going to influence the rest of his life.

Some people stay functional for a while. But the damage to health, mental status and relationships will accumulate, even if it’s not obvious to others for quite some time.

When this deterioration is noted, when the truth comes out, what needs to happen as soon as possible is for that person to get the help he needs to get sober again. A few people can manage this at home, perhaps with the help of a doctor or family. The majority of people need much more support than that.

Addiction creates an intense compulsion to continue the drug use. The body becomes accustomed to the drugs or alcohol and may get very sick when the drugs are withdrawn. Expert support is needed to get through these tough periods and learn how to enjoy life sober again.

The right thing to do is find an effective drug rehab at the first moment possible. It’s not a requirement that your loved one already agrees to go to rehab and an interventionist is skilled in drawing out the person’s own desire to get sober at last. Despite what they may say, no one wants to be an addict.

To make the city of Meridian safe for families and residents of all ages, to help Meridian businesses prosper and avoid the costs associated with drug-impaired employees, Narconon New Life Retreat can help the citizens of Meridian recover from addiction.

Choosing a Drug Rehab and Addiction Treatment Program

Before you choose any rehab program, ask plenty of questions. Find out exactly how the program works. It should be a program you would not mind a loved one going through.

Some rehabs have been found to use abusive or cruel practices to try to “break a person down” during the treatment process. An addicted person is already overwhelmed and being broken down is taking matters in the wrong direction.

The rehab program at Narconon New Life Retreat is focused on repairing the damage of the past and building brand new skills to deal with life in the present.

A thorough sauna-based detoxification step washes away residues from past drug use or drinking, bringing about a fresh, bright outlook and reduced cravings.

Each person then goes through unique exercises that refresh perceptions of the present which helps a person recover from past trauma. And when a person has spent years or even decades addicted, there has always been trauma.

After that, life skills training beefs up a person’s ability to repair relationships, become a valuable employee and face adverse situations.

Should the Drug Rehab Location Matter When It Comes to Finding a Solution to Addiction?

Families often wonder if they should choose a rehab facility close to home or one that is far away. No one answer is right for every family. But many families see the advantages of sending a loved one a considerable distance away for their recovery.

Immediately, that person is in a new environment, someplace safe from drug-using associates and dealers. Everyone around him (or her) is either on the same journey or there to help him succeed. This creates the ideal environment for a person to make the best and fastest progress through the Narconon program.

It also helps a person focus on recovery instead of the problems left behind. For most people, their lives are in shambles by the time they get to rehab. Those loose ends will need to be addressed but the person in recovery will be much better equipped to deal with them successfully after rehab. It is all many people can do to get through the rehabilitation process itself.

Some families see an improvement at home when a loved one goes to rehab as there is the immediate relief of knowing he is where he needs to be to recover his sobriety and himself. The family can concentrate for a while on repairing any damage at home. Many families find this is the best solution for everyone involved.
